BRIEF OUTLINE: A fun twist on ordering food in a restaurant. Students have to avoid the 'bad food'

MATERIALS NEEDED:

  • Several copies of various food items. (not included)

DETAILED EXPLANATION:

  1. Divide the class into waiters and guests.
  2. The guests order as many food items within the time limit. Example dialog:
    • "Hello, what would you like?" (What do you want?)
    • "I'd like a __________." (I want a ...)
    • "Here you are."
    • "Thank you."
  3. Periodically, the teacher says, "STOP" and says the name of one of the food items. Those who have that food item must return ALL of the items they ordered.
  4. Students continue ordering.
  5. Repeat a few times.
  6. The student with the most cards at the game is the winner.
  7. Change roles and repeat the game.

TEACHING SUGGESTIONS:

  • Have students make their own food cards. This can be used with Eigo Noto's parfait or lunch menu class.

    • "Hello, what would you like?" (What do you want?)
    • "I'd like a __________." (I want a ...)
    • "Here you are."
    • "Thank you."
