BRIEF OUTLINE: Students go round asking their friends "Do you like bananas?" in order to find 8 hidden bananamen. In round 2 the keyword changes to "Do you like mushrooms?" and the students try to find 8 hidden Marios.

MATERIALS NEEDED:

DETAILED EXPLANATION:

  1. After teaching the students the grammar "Do you like...? / Yes, I do. / No I don't." tell them that in their class there are 8 bananamen and that their job is to find as many as possible in 5 minutes and write their names on the worksheet.
  2. Get the students to put their heads down on their desk and once you're sure that they're not peeking, walk around the class and tap 8 students on the back to choose the bananamen.
  3. Instruct the students to wake up and then explain that they have to walk around and ask their friends "Do you like bananas?" in order to find the 8 bananamen. If the student was tapped on the back, they answer "Yes, I do." If the student wasn't tapped they answer "No, I don't." They have to write the names of the bananamen on their worksheet.
  4. Round 2, if you choose to use it, has the students searching for 8 Marios by asking, "Do you like mushrooms?"

VARIATIONS:

  • You can also use this concept for the grammar point "Are you a...?" I used it for Halloween and I had 4 ghosts (1 touch) and 4 vampires (2 touches). The kids absolutely loved it.

TEACHING SUGGESTIONS:

  • This game is good at the start to practice the keyword before introducing a lot of vocabulary. Follow up this game with the stitch 'Do you like?' interview game on this site and you have a full 45 minute lesson.
