BRIEF OUTLINE: Students practice greeting and responding with the question, 'How are you?' Students also practice listening and reading with bingo and a word search.

MATERIALS NEEDED:

DETAILED EXPLANATION:

  1. Review vocabulary and target grammar with the students.
  2. All students start at the first box, pair up, and janken.  The loser asks, "How are you?" and the winner answers, "I'm bored."
  3. The loser signs the winners paper and they both find new partners.  The winner moves to the next box and the loser stays.
  4. When the students are finished with all boxes, they come to the ALT for a big signature.  They are then finished.
  5. For bingo, students choose their feeling and fill out their bingo board as they are answered.  This can be done as a class or in pairs.  As a class, students ask the ALT, "How are you?" and then mark the ALT's answer.  In pairs, they pair up and janken as in the first section.  The winner asks the loser, "How are you?" and marks their response.
  6. The last section is a word search.  Review the vocabulary and let the students find the words.

VARIATIONS:

  • The second and third exercise can be done separately or the whole pack can be done together.  If the pack is done as one, please expect more than 30 minutes to be used.

TEACHING SUGGESTIONS:

  • Give the students a numerical ranking along with your signature.  This keeps them competitive and allows them to keep track of their standings.
