BRIEF OUTLINE: The students guess how many coins are in a jar.

MATERIALS NEEDED:

  • HowManyCoins attachment
  • Coins (This activity is designed for about 30 coins)
  • Container (Something to put coins into that the students can't see the coins. A coffee can works well.)
  •

DETAILED EXPLANATION:

  1. Give the students a worksheet.
  2. The ALT or the HRT put some coins into a container. The HRT or the ALT shake the container and the students need to write down how many coins they think is in the container.
  3. When all the students have finished writing down their answers, they should say, “How many coins?” The ALT or the HRT should count the coins out.
  4. If the student’s answer is over, they don't get any points. If the student is under by two or three they get a point. If they have the right answer, they get two points.
  5.
