BRIEF OUTLINE: Students practice saying the months or days while trying to stay in the game.

MATERIALS NEEDED:

  • A song with the months or days used in the lyrics.  The students will need to know the song before they play the game.

DETAILED EXPLANATION:

  1. Start by getting the students into a circle.  Bigger classes may require 2 or 3 circles.
  2. Each student hovers their right hand under the student to their right's hand.  The left hand hovers over the student to their left's hand.  Right hand under, left hand over.
  3. The game starts when the song starts.
  4. For every month or day of the week that the students sing, they clap their right hand upward.  The left hand doesn't move yet.
  5. When the last month or day (or target month or day) is spoken, students try to pull their left hand away so that it isn't touched.
  6. If their left hand is clapped, they are out and move to the center of the circle in order to cheer on the remaining students.
  7. The last two students are the winners.
  8. Reset and repeat.

VARIATIONS:

  • Inner circles can be created so that the "out" students can keep playing.
  • Choose a target month or day for the left hand pull.

TIPS/CAUTIONS:

  • Make sure students don't beat each other.
