BRIEF OUTLINE: This lesson is best used for the 3rd of 4th lesson when teaching Lesson 5 from Hi friends one. The students will play at working for a marketing company.

MATERIALS NEEDED:

  • One A4 size piece of cardboard for every pair of students or one for each student if you like. It also works best if you make up an example sheet and draw an example on the board. See example attached

DETAILED EXPLANATION:

  1. In the first two lessons teach the sentence pattern, "What colour etc do you like?" .
  2. Give one piece of cardboard to each pair and explain that they are now 25 and are working in the marketing section of a big company. They have to design a new product and ask many people their opinions to find the best product to sell. For example a new donut. (Shape)(colour)(flavour)
  3. Give each pair of students ten minutes to decide on a product and draw up their survey cards while you go around the class giving suggestions.
  4. Then one of the students works as an interviewer and the other as an interviewee. Students walk around the class asking each other, afterwards switching roles.
    Sample dialog:
Hello. May I ask you a question?
    OK
    What shape do you like?
    Round
    What flavour do you like?
    Strawberry
    What colour do you like?
    Pink
    Thank you.

VARIATIONS:

  • Some of the products the students have thought of. Donut, drink bottle, hat, sock, pencil case, bag, doghouse etc.

TEACHING SUGGESTIONS:

  • If possible tell the class in the previous lesson what you plan to do so they can think about the product, it saves a lot of time and you get some funny ideas.
  • Get the JT to explain the activity and ask the children if anybody is interested in such a job.
