BRIEF OUTLINE
Can students remember all the vocabulary? This is more of a vocabulary game rather than a dialogue game and really good for checking their abilities.

There are two Learning Targets:
  • I can use expressions and gestures with my partner and understand their expressions and gestures with a positive attitude.

  • I can ask and answer“How are you?” (I am familiar with expressions concerning the state of things and emotions.)

MATERIALS NEEDED:

  • Teacher sized flashcards (with magnets), black board/wall.

DETAILED EXPLANATION:

  • 1.Review the“feelings” vocabulary with the flashcards (happy, sad, tired, hungry, fine).

  • 2.Put the cards on the black board/wall

  • 3.Ask students to close their eyes while you remove one of the cards.

  • 4.Students must yell the missing card in English.

VARIATIONS:

This might also be a good time to point out differences between the culture’s gestures.

TEACHING SUGGESTIONS:

  • As part of the National curriculum, your HRT (homeroom teacher) might want students to fill out cards at the end, so be sure to leave 3 or 5 minutes at the end.

  • Students should be familiar with asking and answering/saying “How are you?” Ask students to record their progress on their Reflection Cards. (Can be a point system 1-10, or students can give themselves a 'frowny' face, straight face, or smiley face.
