BRIEF OUTLINE:Students play sugoroku to practice "What's This?" (with updated vocabulary for Hi Friends lesson 7!)

MATERIALS NEEDED:

  • Small magnets (to act as pieces) for demonstration on board
  •  Board attachment

DETAILED EXPLANATION:

  1. To play, students will janken (in English!). The winner will move forward a certain number of spaces depending on the hand (designated at the top of the board). The winner then asks, "What's this?" and points to the picture on which he landed. If the loser can answer correctly, "It's a ~ !" then the loser can move one space. Rinse and repeat.
  2. Review vocabulary using flashcards
  3. Have students make pairs and pass out one A3 sized board to each pair
  4. Demonstrate two rounds on the board, getting the answer correct the first time and incorrect the second.
  5. Have students take out a game piece--an eraser, pen cap, etc--and start playing!

TEACHING SUGGESTIONS:

  • This can easily be played on the very first introductory lesson!
