BRIEF OUTLINE: Students learn a song over a period of time to do as a warm-up.

MATERIALS NEEDED:

  • Don’t Worry, Be Happy song (not included)
  • Lyric worksheet (not included)

DETAILED EXPLANATION:

  1. Week one, hand out the lyrics and students learn the first verse just as a reading warm-up.
  2. Week two, students sing.
  3. Week three learn next verse...etc.

VARIATIONS:

  • Use this as a gradual project and by the end of the learning, students make groups and perform for the class.

TIPS/CAUTIONS:

  • Some students (especially boys) won’t sing. You sing big, put music on loud and be silly about it and they feel more comfortable as it seems more as a fun activity, then focusing on the singing element.
