BRIEF OUTLINE: Students listen to a song by the British pop boy band, One Direction, and fill in blanks.

MATERIALS NEEDED:

DETAILED EXPLANATION:

  1. Play the song for the students.
  2. Students listen and fill in the blanks.
  3. Hand out the answer sheet so students can check their answers.

VARIATIONS:

  • Play the song twice or three times.
  • Selena's variation: I played the song after we had explained linking sounds.
Previously we had done 10 examples where students write what they think I said.
e.g. What's your name? --> sounds like "Whatcha name?"
Soup or salad?--> sounds like "super salad"
    We practiced those.
    We also covered; T+Y=CH; D+Y=J; Z+Y=ZH
