BRIEF OUTLINE: Students listen series of two similar sentences and circle the correct one.

  1. After giving a handout to each student, practice the pronunciation of the new words on it: sheep, sheet, vase, grass, etc.
  2. Then, choose one of the following similar sentences and say them.  The students must circle the correct ones.
    • It's a large sheep. / It's a large ship.
    • I have a good seat. / I have a good sheet.
    • Turn to the right. / Turn at the light.
    • Let's live here. / Let's leave here.
    • He carried bases. / He carried vases.
    • He is in the large bus. / He is in the large bath.
    • Look at the large lock. / Look at the large rock.
    • He works everyday. / He walks everyday.
    • That's a fast train. / That's the first train.
    • I like the glass. / I like the grass.
  3. Go over the answers together as a class.

  • This activity is best used for second/third grade students since it does contain a few new vocabulary words and one past tense verb.
