BRIEF OUTLINE: A versatile quiz game using the Pop-up Pirate toy.

MATERIALS NEEDED:

  • 黒ひげ危機一発 (Kurohige Kiki Ippatsu) Toy

DETAILED EXPLANATION:

  1. The Pop-up Pirate game is a popular toy in Japan. It is a pirate that is placed into a spring-loaded barrel. Players must take turns inserting plastic swords into slots in the side of the barrel. If a player inserts the sword into a specific slot, the pirate pops out, and the player loses. Basically you could do anything for this game: true of false guessing, scrambled sentences, or any kind of quiz. If the student/team answers incorrectly, they play pop-up pirate by putting one sword in the barrel. If the pirate pops, that student/team loses.

VARIATIONS:

  • Jenga, スーパーイタイワニー, チビ犬ガオガオ

TIPS/CAUTIONS:

  • Be careful with the pirate, when it pops it will most certainly hit the floor.
