BRIEF OUTLINE: Students practice asking and answering questions using the 5Ws and H question words.

MATERIALS NEEDED:

DETAILED EXPLANATION:

  1. Listening: Read each question slowly and have the students dictate.
  2. These questions can be used for the listening activity:
    • Do you know why Ichiro likes baseball?
    • Do you know what oden is?
    • Do you know when Christmas is?
    • Do you know who Takuya Kimura is?
    • Do you know where Disneyland is?
    • Do you know how to say ‘konnichiwa’ in French?
  3. Writing: Have the students answer each question. Students should write in complete sentences.
  4. Speaking: Have students choose 5 of the questions and ask 5 different students/teachers. Do a role-play with the teacher. Tell students that during the interview, they can just take notes and not dwell over trying to write the answers in complete sentences.

TEACHING SUGGESTIONS:

  • Review the questions words prior to the activity: who, what, when, where, why and how
