BRIEF OUTLINE: A compilation of reading comprehension questions for Sunshine's After Twenty Years.  

 

MATERIALS NEEDED:

 

DETAILED EXPLANATION:

  1. Read the passage to the students with the JTE. If you have the CD, please play the CD for listening practice.
  2. Hand out the reading comprehension worksheet and have them answer. 
  3. Check the answers.  Often, adding an additional, "Why?" after the worksheet questions are answered helps students think more critically. 

 

VARIATIONS:

  • Choose which questions best suit your classes ability.  Try to keep the questions challenging. 

 

TEACHING SUGGESTIONS:

  • I think students should be able to listen to the story with the CD so that they can enjoy listening to a story. complete with sound effects, background music, and different voices.
  • Then I think students should be given time to think for themselves on the meaning of the story, before going in and translating to quickly.
  • These simple questions, should help students understand the meaning without translation if answered correctly.

TIPS/CAUTIONS:

  • Try not to give the students word for word translations and allow them to think and work before the translation begins.
