BRIEF
OUTLINE: Fill in the blanks with the correct 'Be' form and race to the finish.

MATERIALS NEEDED:

DETAILED EXPLANATION:

  1. Cut up the worksheet into the 6 blocks/race sheets - one entire worksheet(6 blocks) for each student or group depending on the class size.
  2. Explain the activity before handing out the first race sheet face down so everyone starts at the same time.
  3. Students must fill in the blanks with the correct form of "to be" in each sentence.
  4. Students must rush to the front to have a teacher check their answers. If all answers are OK, they get the next race sheet. If there are errors, send them back to complete correctly - I usually tell them how many errors there are the first time, then tell them what is wrong the second time.
  5. First one to finish all 6 sheets wins. I usually reward the fastest 3.

 VARIATIONS:

  • Game can be adapted to various grammar points.
  •

TEACHING SUGGESTIONS:

  • It's good to have an extra activity handy, like a crossword puzzle for those who finish quicker than the rest.
