BRIEF OUTLINE: A 3-part activity featuring an interview, matching, and Tic-Tac-Toe games using the phrase "am going to."

  1. Distribute the worksheet and have the students fill in their dream job for Part 1. Have them interview 4 other students about their dream and fill in the chart with the interviewed students' names and jobs.
  2. Part 2 is a simple matching game that you can use to check their understanding of the forms of "be" and the meanings of the sentences.
  3. Part 3 is a Tic-Tac-Toe game. After drilling the grammar a little, find an (un) willing volunteer, decide who is "O" and "X," and janken. The loser decides the question (giving them a chance to win again) and winner answers. With your volunteer, do a round quickly until one of you win, showing the students how to play. Put the students into pairs and get them to decide who is "O" and "X." Once they have decided, let them play, going around making sure that they understand and are doing the game.

  • Smart students may understand straight off and start halfway through your explanation.
