BRIEF
OUTLINE: Students are chosen to come up to the front and pull objects out of the 'magic box.' Once they have hold of an object, but without pulling it out, the ALT will ask 'What is it?' to which the student replies.

MATERIALS NEEDED:

  • A Magic Box (A big cardboard box which you have made more interesting with fabric, glitter and stars etc).
  • Several well known items of varying textures and shapes.
  • Optional: A speaker of some kind to put inside the box.
  •

DETAILED EXPLANATION:

  1. Make the box (well) and place lots of potentionally scary (but safe) items into it.
  2. Somehow choose (through games or otherwise) students to come up to the front.
  3. (Optional) Scare the hell out of them by playing animal sounds from within the box just as they are reaching in.
  4. To do this I have placed a small bluetooth speaker inside the box and play the noises using my phone. There is an app on google store which plays animal noises.
  5. Have them guess the animal inside, and then guess what item they manage to grab hold of 'This is...' etc.
  6. For extra scares: build a flap into the back of the box and using a feather or something on a stick, and use it to touch the students hand lightly as they reach in.

TIPS/CAUTIONS:

  • Scare them a little, but not too much.
