BRIEF OUTLINE: Students play an adapted version of the popular drinking game (a point that should NOT be made in class).

 

MATERIALS NEEDED:

  • None

DETAILED EXPLANATION:

  1. Set class into groups. Have all the students in the group stand.
  2. Elect one student from each group to begin (or have them select themselves via Janken).
  3. Student 1 says “one” and points to another student. The student who was pointed at continues and says “two.” That student points to another student who says “three” while pointing to yet another group member. The Group members continue this pattern and say the numbers 1 to 20 then back to 1 again while pointing to who’s next in turn.
  4. Make it a race against groups, and applaud the group who finishes first.

 

VARIATIONS:

  • Vary the numbers, such as 1-30.
  • For an additional challenge, have the students list off numbers in multiples of two (2, 4, 6…) or multiples of three (3, 6, 9…).

 

TEACHING SUGGESTIONS:

  • Virtually all instruction can be eliminated by using one of the groups and demonstrating a practice round.
  • Encourage students to point AND speak at the same time.

 

TIPS/CAUTIONS:

  • Shy students can quickly be ridiculed by their peers for not keeping tempo. Be sure to be available for assistance.
