BRIEF OUTLINE: Students decorate the classroom for Christmas and talk about the decorations and their positions with the teachers.




  1. Each student gets a worksheet. The first thing they do is choose how to decorate the classroom using the items on the worksheet. For more creative classes, you can tell the students to come up with their own decorations as well. This will make each room more unique and make the speaking part less monotonous for the teachers as well.
  2. After decorating, students choose one part of the room to talk about. For example, "In my room, there are lights above the blackboard."
  3. The JTE and AET go to opposite sides of the room. Students talk to both teachers about their decorations. (S: "In my room, there are lights above the blackboard. Are there lights above the blackboard in your room, too?" T: "Yes, there are.") There is a space at the bottom for each teacher to sign/stamp/seal/whatever when they finish. In my classes, students who talked to both teachers (rather than just the AET or just the JTE) got extra points.


  • This activity could be modified to fit any holiday (Halloween decorations, Valentines Decorations, etc). You could also turn it into a generic class party or school festival decoration activity. 
  • Students can ask 2 of their friends instead of the teachers.


  • My JTE and I modeled doing the worksheet with the kids. I think it's important to emphasize that it doesn't really matter where they put everything, as long as they can talk about it after. You can do this by putting items in some ridiculous places. "There is a tree inside the desk", etc.
