  • Conceptualized and designed an extensive teaching resource website for Japan’s English education system. The site includes a bilingual elementary school (ES) area and a junior high school (JHS) section which links all of Japan’s JHS English textbook series and allows teachers to share their teaching ideas and activities.
  • Knowledgeable on WYSIWYG website building platforms, Microsoft Office (XP & 2007), file organization and Paint Shop Pro.
  • Coordinate with volunteer with Project Managers worldwide to build and maintain the site

OSHINO VILLAGE BOARD OF EDUCATION: 2008-2012
TITLE: ASSISTANT LANGUAGE TEACHER, YAMANASHI PREFECTURE

  • Co-taught with Japanese Teachers of English (JTE)
  • Responsible for designing English activities, worksheets and educational games  for the students
  • Coached JHS students in prefectural-wide English recitation contests
  • Coached JHS students for the Takamado’s All-Japan Speech Recitation Contest

  • Successfully constructed and implemented a phonics curriculum specific to JHS Japanese students

TITLE: ASSISTANT LANGUAGE TEACHER, NIIGATA PREFECTURE

  • Taught at two elementary and one junior high school
  • Designed and implemented a phonics system for ES students
  • Promoted a successful English homework system in Japanese elementary schools

ACHIEVEMENTS

  • 2008: Featured in a newspaper article in the Niigata Shinbum. The article was in reference to a seminar about the importance of phonics in the Japanese classroom. 
  • 2008: Taught a seminar to Japanese ES teachers: “Phonics in the English Classroom”
  • 2008: Presented two seminars at Niigata’s Japan Exchange and Teaching Program’s mid-year seminar: “What Is Phonics?” and “How to Teach Phonics in JHS?”
  • 2007: Conducted a presentation at Niigata’s JET Program’s mid-year seminar: “Phonics: What Is It? Why Is It Important? How to Teach It.”

JAPANESE EXCHANGE & TEACHING (JET) PROGRAM: 2003-2006
TITLE: ASSISTANT LANGUAGE TEACHER, KARIWA VILLAGE

  • Taught at three preschools, one elementary and junior high school
  • Created a pen pal and gift exchange program between JHS students in Japan and Alaska
  • Volunteer at Kariwa's Summer Kid’s Camp
  • Introduced American culture to JHS homestay students

  • 2004: Presenter at an English kid’s camp in Kashiwazaki: “Match in the English Classroom”
  • 2004-2006: Technical Crew Director for the Niigata Charity Musical. The NPO charity raised money to build schools for poor children in Papa New Guinea
